Eco friendly face pads

Having 2 daughters means lots of make up to be removed, being quite environmentally conscious I decided to put my crochet skills to use to make some cotton rounds for us all to use.

First I did some puff stitch ones to give a bit more texture then I did some plain double crochet ones. Finally I did a set in double crochet, half double crochet and single crochet ( US terms despite me being in the UK lol)

These have been a real hit with both my girls, for general face cleansing, make up removal and anything else they would use a cotton wool pad for! After use they can be rinsed and dried a couple of times and then pop in the machine with household washing.

Saving the planet matters even if it is baby step by baby step

I used 100% cotton and 60% cotton 40% acrylic mix yarns and both work well and wash well!

I also use a menstrual cup for reducing my waste but that is a post for another time 😁

Doll outfit

My youngest wanted an american girl doll for her birthday a couple of weeks ago, she ended up with two of them and 3 outfits! They are well loved so I decided to have a go at making something for the dolls to wear!

I browsed google and found a designer – Meesh Bridges on ravelry who did a couple of simple free patterns so I had a go at the easiest looking one!

You can find the designers doll patterns here

My daughter loved it but if I was to make again would add a few rounds so it looked a little less “pretty woman” and more pretty girl! Both the shrug and dress used up less than 50g dk yarn and did not take very long at all! Will try something more challenging next time as there are so many beautiful designs out there!

On a seperate note any ideas how to tame the curly hair as the box said finger style do not brush or curls will drop but it is looking rather matted in places! The straight haired version brushes out lovely but dearest daughter wanted to keep this ones curls and I am stumped.

Relaxation!

I crochet to relax, this simple pattern needs no thought or concentration and is ideal for newborn babies in this warmer weather well in the evenings/early mornings before the sun is in full flow!

The pattern is by Love Hooking Crochet Designs and found here at ravelry:

The way it forms is so easy that it is almost meditative making this and that helps with my pain levels!

It is highly customisable too once you have the basic idea you can change stitches or add sleeves, playing with the hook size and different yarns can make it bigger or smaller! I love this pattern as a starting point.

Summer holidays begin!

So yesterday my children finished school for the 6 weeks holiday. This used to fill me with dread but as they are now more independent it is much easier! I wont miss the school runs and I will definitely appreciate the break from being chair of governors at my youngests school. I also do much less work as a holistic therapist during school hols so this means more quality time with the kids and more energy plus more time to crochet!

As we have been predicted another two weeks of heatwave I decided to knock up some reusable crochet water bombs.

These things are so easy to make and there is no mess to clear up after! No rubber going to landfill and all you need is a bowl of water and they can play all afternoon!

I made these with a chenille chunky yarn and an 8mm hook and just made the pattern up as I went. It took me maybe an hour to make 5 inbetween watching Wentworth prison.

Hopefully I will be able to write more posts over the holidays and definitely read some more of the posts available on wordpress!

Bye for now and wish me luck to stay sane at home with two asd boys one with epilepsy one with dyspraxia and an 8 year old drama queen 😂

Help! Photography is not one of my talents!

I love crochet, making something functional out of a ball of yarn and a hook is satisfying! What is not so satisfying is when I come to share my creations over on facebook…

I look at the item with my eyes and it looks fab but on the screen it looks wonky, washed out or any tiny imperfection jumps up to say hello!! I am not a photographer beyond point and click with my phone but even so how do I get it so wrong lol

Any useful tips much appreciated!

Here are some examples of my less than stellar snaps!

Give me something to make or a body in pain to fix and I am your gal, but something that in my head should be relatively simple is just frustrating!

If you gave any easy tips or tricks to point me in the right direction please comment!
